INSTRUCTOR STAFF DEVELOPMENT: Our staff has been busy honing their craft as fitness professionals. Mare took a Balletone Choreography Workshop on 8/29 that included "Music Mapping" and new simple phrases. In September, she will take an AB LAB course through Muscle Mixes. Renee and Sharyn will take a course called HIIT It Yoga through NETA.

MEMBERSHIP STATISTICS:  An analysis of the past three months resulted in the following findings: there has been a dramatic drop in attendance of 20 LESS participants per week since June 1st and class averages less than the necessary 6 participants to make payroll for several classes on the current schedule.

WHAT DO I PLAN TO DO AS OWNER?  I have purchased both print and digital ads that will begin this week to try to gain new members. I will also investigate a digital survey to gather your input with regard to our current offerings, times, and class types moving forward. I will also contact the members who have not attended classes since May to encourage them to use up their current inactive cards by December 31, 2021. I will also consider a price increase of $45 for 10 classes which would take effect November 1st if attendance does not improve to an average of 70 participants per week.

WHAT CAN YOU DO AS MEMBERS?  Please try to attend classes on a consistent basis and renew in a timely manner after Sharyn sends you a reminder email because a constant source of revenue is needed to meet fixed costs. Please feel free to share suggestions WITH YOUR INSTRUCTOR via email that can make class more enjoyable for you. Please contact me if days and times no longer work with your schedule especially if you are returning to the work force after a long hiatus.

You are valued and loved and we are committed to continuing TBT87 INDEFINITELY! We hope you will support us as we continue our mission to bring you fitness workouts that are safe, fun, and effective from the comfort of your own homes. Mare, Sharyn and Renee

As I think back, many of you who are TBT87 members today were there to help us renovate our next space (and the next, and the next) without hesitation. I guess COVID counts as another "rising out of the ashes" in a way - despite three locations since that fire occurred, we are still going strong. In fact we currently have the same number of clients today that we had back in 2005. That is quite a feat!  Thank you for your support. I couldn't have done it without all of you. Mare

November 2020 Newsletter

There's a chill in the air, we have already experienced the first coating of snow on the roads, and the skies darken earlier with each passing day. We hope the opportunity to take fitness classes safely from your own homes is a welcome relief in the months ahead. We are here for you! Mare, Renee and Sharyn

TBT87 News:  HAPPY 23rd ANNIVERSARY TO TOTAL BODY TRIFECTA! My original partners Brian Bayly, Ivy White and I opened our doors at our first location at 87 Church Street in Saratoga Springs on November 9, 1997 with 24 classes, seven days a week. Those were the days of cassette tapes, shiny unitards with matching belts/headbands, Madonna microphones in a fanny pack and the advent of kickboxing and pilates!

Business was interrupted by a devastating fire on March 5, 2005 in the apartment above our studio that resulted in the loss of all our equipment and the building where we rented - both a total loss. The National Museum of Dance became our temporary home for 4 months until our former landlord Bill Wardell and our devoted clients and staff renovated the addition on his plumbing shop.

We reopened in July 2005 on the same corner lot as our original space. The grand opening at 61 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs was made even more celebratory with a ribbon cutting ceremony that included NYCB principal dancers  Jenifer Ringer and James Fayette plus Soloist Tom Gold.

In August 2012, the landlord sold the lot and the new owner evicted us. We had less than 30 days to vacate the premises by noon August 31st. Again, with the help of my clients, we moved to My Gym Fitness Center in Ballston Spa. This time, my business was a subcontractor so we could not offer the number, length or frequency of classes we were accustomed to. However, we had a huge studio, all my equipment was at the-ready, my staff and clients followed me, the gym staff welcomed us, and it felt like a new home. And then COVID hit...

I admit I felt sad, lost, and wondered if I'd ever find that "family fitness feeling" again. Thanks to Zoom and all of you, I type this with great joy and gratitude. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on our blessings - and I attribute those feelings to the 60+ incredible members and staff of TBT87. Thank you for supporting this labor of love, Mare

Dance with the Dancers News:  NYCB Soloist Brittany Pollack will teach ballet + variations on WEDNESDAY November 11 at 11:30. Her choreography will be inspired by Justin Peck's RODEO. COMING IN DECEMBER:  Nutcracker-inspired classes with NYCB dancers on dates and times TBA. $10 per person per class. Checks or PayPal accepted.  Pre-paid registration is required at least 3 days in advance to receive the Zoom invitations.

Holiday Schedule: We will offer a regular schedule of classes Thanksgiving week on Monday, Tuesday and Friday. No 4:30 class on Wednesday or Thursday nights or at 10:30 on Thanksgiving morning. Instead, we will offer at 10:30 CARDIO + CORE class on Wednesday, November 25. Renee will teach Low Impact aerobics the first 30 minutes and Sharyn will teach mixed-level pilates mat with weights. Please bring a mat, water, towel and weights. Wear sneakers for the first half and bare feet or socks for the second half. Have a safe and happy holiday!

Monthly News

April 2020 Newsletter

It seems ironic that last month we turned the clocks ahead. Here we are facing the uncertainty of the future wishing we could “spring ahead” to a time when this pandemic successfully ends and we are once again safe and “free” on so many different levels.

MY GYM news:  Ever since gyms across the country were told to close their doors, we have been posting one or two workouts day on the Total Body Trifecta Facebook page:  Mare at Trifecta. These free workouts are safe, offer a variety of modifications, use little to no equipment, and, most importantly, match our My Gym class schedule offerings from HIIT to Core de Ballet to Yoga.  I personally research, try out and post videos I think our clients will enjoy. Pilates/yoga master teachers Sharyn and Ellen suggest videos in those genres. You can access them anytime by clicking on the picture or link posted.  LIKE us on Facebook!

In addition, every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday we will offer LIVE classes using ZOOM.  Join Renee Monday mornings at 9:15 for Cardio Intervals, me on Tuesdays at 4:30 for Cardio + Sculpt and Wednesdays at 4:30 for Upper Cut + HIIT. To be eligible, you must first download the Zoom app and we must know your email address.  We will then send you an invitation to join the class with a password included in the invitation. This begins Monday, April 6th for the entire month.  We will be taking attendance at each class so be sure to log in and say hi!

Zumba instructor Jodie uses a different free format for her classes which are accessible for 36 hours at the end of each week on our Facebook page.  More group fitness instructors, including gym owner Mark Boudreau, may teach additional Zoom live classes TBA.

HVCC news:  After only four weeks, the rest of the Spring session has been cancelled. We are in the process of trying to create a series of online offerings for a full summer session of group fitness classes. Stay tuned for more details.

National Museum of Dance news:  Both Barre & Balance and Dancing Through Time sessions have been cancelled and the museum and its School of the Arts are closed indefinitely.  We anticipate both will return in Fall 2020.

Stay safe, stay healthy and stay motivated to stay fit.  We miss you!

February 2020 Newsletter

It's hard to believe that this month marks seven and one-half years at My Gym Fitness Center. It is a turning point for us as I look back at  seven and one-half years at 87 Church Street, and seven and one-half years at 61 Lawrence Street! 3 locations that put the "TRI" in Trifecta I guess. As this new era begins it is time for some updates. One month from today, March 5th (which many of you know has major significance in our journey), we will launch a brand new website, Facebook page and social media presence.  Thanks to Brainworks Studio which, ironically, is located directly across the street from our first two studio locations, TBT will venture into the 21st century. I cannot wait to unveil it to all of you!

Thank you to Simone Noud and A J Ferris for teaching Sculpt and Cardio Caliente in February! It was great to have them make a cameo. Donna will return to teach the Tuesday lineup of Just Cardio and Sculpt on February 19.

The Wednesday night Upper Cut and Step instructors for February are: Renee February 5, 19 and Mare February 12, 26.

Thursday nights will once again offer Mind/Body classes that include a yoga component, focus on core stabilization and balance, offer non-impact movements that are easy-to-follow and create a restorative ambiance at the end of a long week. Both classes (see below) require a yoga mat. Attire should be comfortable and allow movement and warmth for the final segments. Bare feet are optional.

We are happy to welcome Sharyn Kalinkewicz to our staff two Thursdays a month to teach Pilates/Yoga. This one hour class from 4:25-5:25 will spend 45 minutes focusing on the traditional non-cardio Pilates exercises that are intended to increase flexibility and core strength while lengthening, defining and sculpting muscles. This portion will include modifications for those new to Pilates as well as more challenging alternatives for those with experience. The final 15 minutes will incorporate traditional, thematic yoga postures that include hip opening, back extension and standing balance. Absolute beginners and walk-ins are welcome! (February 20, 27)

After a LONG absence, Mary Anne will bring back Sole Synthesis two Thursdays a month. This one hour class from 4:25-5:25 will spend 50 minutes improving balance, core stabilization and fluidity from the bottom up. Exercises for the feet and ankles to improve your base of support are followed by easy-to-follow segments of fitness, ballet and yoga that are done standing. The music is an eclectic rhythmic mix. The final 10 minutes will include standing and seated stretches to enhance flexibility. All are welcome! (February 6, 13))

Don't miss "Night At The Museum: LIVE!" Thursday February 13. Movers of all ages and fitness/dance levels are invited to replicate the pose on one of the posters in the "Art of the Dance: Posters from Hollywood's Golden Age" exhibit then make it come alive through their own creative series of movements. (30-60 seconds) The 6:00-6:40 creation portion is free to all participants. At 6:45, the National Museum of Dance's doors will open and paying visitors will stroll through the exhibit to experience your poster come alive before their eyes.  See Mary Anne for more information.

I hope to see you at "Night at the Museum: Live!" and at the gym,

Mary Anne
